Symptoms often include swollen, red, and painful areas that may also look shiny and wet. Blisters are common in second-degree burns which can break open, causing a clear fluid to leak out. It can also be painful to the touch and cause changes in skin color. Areas can appear white or patched and individual may experience sensitivity or loss of sensation to heat, cold, or touch.
