T21.2: Burn of second degree of trunk
Burn of second degree of the trunk is a type of injury that specifically involves damage to the chest, back, or abdominal area of the body due to exposure to extreme heat, chemical, electrical, or radiation sources. This burn level signifies that not only the outer layer, or the epidermis of the skin, is impacted but the damage extends to the second layer, known as the dermis. Symptoms often include swollen, red, and painful areas that may also look shiny and wet. Blisters are common in second-degree burns which can break open, causing a clear fluid to leak out. It can also be painful to the touch and cause changes in skin color. Areas can appear white or patched and individual may experience sensitivity or loss of sensation to heat, cold, or touch. Severe second-degree burns can lead to serious health concerns if not properly addressed.
