T21: Burn and corrosion of trunk
T21.1: Burn of first degree of trunk
Burn of the first degree of the trunk is a burn injury that affects the chest, abdomen, or back, also known as the body's trunk. This type of burn is considered superficial as it only involves the outermost layer of the skin, the epidermis. A person with first-degree burns typically experiences symptoms such as redness, minor inflammation or swelling, and pain. The skin may feel warm or hot to the touch and there might be some discomfort when the area is touched. This type of burn usually results from brief contact with hot substances, flash burns, sunburns, or minor thermal burns. The healing process may involve the skin peeling as it recovers, typically within 5 to 7 days, and usually leaves no permanent scarring. Despite being a minor burn, medical evaluation is necessary to prevent infection and provide proper pain management.
