T20-T32: Burns and corrosions

T20-T25: Burns and corrosions of external body surface, specified by site

Burns and corrosions of the external body surface encompass a range of injuries that occur due to exposure to heat, electricity, chemicals, light, radiation, or friction. These injuries are specified by the site affected on the person's body. The severity of these injuries can vary drastically, from minor ones that affect only the top layer of skin (epidermis), to severe ones that reach the deeper layers of skin (dermis) or even the underlying tissues. Symptoms often include redness, swelling, pain and blisters. In more severe cases, the skin may turn white or black, and the person might experience numbness due to nerve damage. Burns and corrosions may cause additional complications like infection or shock, especially if a large portion of the body is affected. They are not contagious, as they result from external exposure, not from an internal disease process or pathogen.
