S80-S89: Injuries to the knee and lower leg
S80: Superficial injury of lower leg
Superficial injuries of the lower leg involve damage to the outermost layer of skin or very minimal tissue underneath. Common causes of these injuries could be falls, slight burns, or contact with sharp objects. These are typically minor wounds such as abrasions (scrapes), blisters, or minor cuts and lacerations. Initially, the injured area may display signs like swelling, redness, tenderness, or slight bleeding. In some cases, bruising may also occur after a few hours. The affected individual might experience mild pain or discomfort. The injuries usually heal progressively over time and might result in temporary change of skin colour at the wound location. If deeper tissues or large areas are affected, it may indicate a more severe injury.
