S40: Superficial injury of shoulder and upper arm

S40.9: Superficial injury of shoulder and upper arm, unspecified

Superficial injury of the shoulder and upper arm refers to an injury that affects the skin or outer layers of these areas. It does not involve bone, muscle, or joint injury. This term is a broad one and can include a variety of injuries such as scratches, cuts, abrasions or burns. These injuries could occur from various causes such as falls, accidents, or due to the use of sharp objects or hot surfaces. When a person experiences a superficial injury, it typically presents with visible changes on the skin surface such as redness, swelling, or break in the skin. Pain or discomfort in the area of injury might also be noticed. Depending on the type and severity of the injury, other symptoms like bleeding or blistering might occur. In the course of time, without appropriate wound management, these injuries although superficial, may become susceptible to infection.
