S11.8: Open wound of other parts of neck
An open wound of other parts of the neck is a type of injury that involves a break in the skin or membranes of the neck region not including the front of the neck. This injury may be caused by sharp objects, such as a knife or glass, or blunt trauma that is forceful enough to break the skin. It often results in damage to the skin and superficial tissues of the neck, and depending on the depth, it may also affect deeper structures like muscles, veins, arteries, or nerves. Symptoms can include pain, bleeding, swelling, and, in more severe cases, difficulties in swallowing or breathing. As an open wound, there's a risk of contamination and infection which could potentially cause more serious complications if not properly taken care of. Although open wounds are generally visible, the extent of the underlying damage may not always be apparent, therefore, immediate medical attention is typically required.
