S11: Open wound of neck

S11.0: Open wound involving larynx and trachea

An open wound involving the larynx and trachea, as the term suggests, represents a type of injury where there is a break in the skin or surface tissue involving the larynx (the voice box) and the trachea (the windpipe). These types of wounds often result from direct trauma to the neck area, such as accidents, falls, or even surgical procedures. Symptoms may vary depending upon the depth and extent of the wound. It may include, but are not limited to, difficulty breathing, changes in voice, pain or discomfort in the neck area, and occasional bleeding from the wound site. The progression of this condition highly depends on the extent of the wound and immediate medical attention is often necessary due to risks of airway obstruction or severe infection. For severe cases, it may affect an individual's breathing and ability to speak.
