S00-S09: Injuries to the head

S00: Superficial injury of head

Superficial injuries of the head are a group of conditions that affect the skin and top layer of tissue on the head. These injuries often result from knocks, bumps, or scrapes on the head region, such as can result from common accidents involving falls, minor vehicle collisions, sports accidents, or other incidents involving contact with the head. Typical symptoms can include pain, tenderness, redness, swelling, or bruises. In some cases, these injuries may also cause abrasions or cuts. Superficial head injuries do not generally involve deeper structures of the head such as the skull, brain or eye, and the progress of these injuries usually involves a natural healing process resulting in the repair of the injured skin and tissues. Despite this, any head injury may potentially have more severe underlying effects, so it is important to monitor symptoms and seek medical evaluation in the event of persistent symptoms or worsening conditions.
