R82: Other abnormal findings in urine
R82.1: Myoglobinuria
There are normally 2 kidneys in the body. They filter blood and create urine. They thus help to detoxify the body. Furthermore, the kidneys regulate the blood pressure and salt content in the blood, among other things. Only certain substances are emitted via urine to detoxify the body. Muscle proteins are not normally excreted with the urine, or only in small amounts.
There are many different reasons for muscle proteins being in the urine. If the muscles are under a lot of strain or damaged, muscle proteins can be excreted with the urine. If a lot of muscle protein is excreted with the urine, then the kidneys can also get damaged as a result.
Muscle proteins being in the urine can make the urine turn red.
