R74: Abnormal serum enzyme levels
R74.0: Elevation of levels of transaminase and lactic acid dehydrogenase [LDH]
In the body, certain proteins ensure that processes run better or more quickly. These proteins are also known as enzymes. Transaminases are enzymes that are found in the liver, among other places. LDH is an enzyme found in all of the body’s cells. There can be a high level of transaminases and LDH in the blood if body cells are dying off. This can happen in the case of inflammations or injuries, for example.
Changes in the amount of proteins in the blood are not always pathological. When assessing a changed value it is important to take into account possible problems and other test results.
