R65: Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome [SIRS]
R65.1: Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome of infectious origin with organ failure
Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) of infectious origin with organ failure is a severe illness, which usually results from an infection that triggers an exaggerated response from the body's defense system. This response results in widespread inflammation, which can be harmful to many of the body's organs. Symptoms often begin with fevers or chills, rapid heart rate, and quickened breath. As severity increases, the inflammatory response starts to impair the function of one or more organ systems, like the heart, lungs, kidneys, or liver, leading to organ failure. In severe cases, the condition can progress to septic shock, a critical state of low blood pressure that can restrict blood flow to the organs. Please remember, SIRS is a serious condition that requires immediate and aggressive medical intervention.
