R52: Pain, not elsewhere classified
R52.2: Other chronic pain
Other chronic pain, as its name suggests, is a type of pain that persists or recurs over a long period, typically for three months or more. Unlike acute pain, which serves as an alert to a possible injury, chronic pain doesn't have a protective role, can continue even when the healing process is completed, and drastically affects the patient's quality of life. This pain can stem from a variety of sources such as a previous injury or surgery, chronic diseases, neurological disorders, or it may exist without a clear cause. It can present in many forms; it may be constant or intermittent, it can feel like aches, burning, shooting, or electrical sensations in any part of the body. Moreover, individuals suffering from chronic pain may also experience fatigue, sleep disturbances, decreased appetite, and mood changes such as depression and anxiety.
