R39: Other symptoms and signs involving the urinary system

R39.0: Extravasation of urine

The urinary passages include the ureters, bladder and urethra. Urine flows from both kidneys into the bladder via the ureters. The urethra channels the urine outward from the bladder.

The urinary tract can be damaged during surgery or due to a disorder, for example. This can result in a leak. This causes urine to flow from this leak into the surrounding tissue.

If urine flows into the surrounding tissue, pain and fever can occur. Tissue in the abdomen may also become inflamed.
