Q74: Other congenital malformations of limb(s)
Q74.3: Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita
Muscles and joints develop during the time in the womb. It is important for their development for the child to move. If the child does not move enough during this time, joints can stiffen. There are various reasons that may lead to insufficient movement. These include certain maternal or child illnesses like muscle or nerve disorders. Lack of space can also be a cause, for example if there is not enough amniotic fluid.
If joints are stiff, then they are unable to move as much or at all. The symptoms depend on how many joints are affected and how severe the stiffness is.
