Q20: Congenital malformations of cardiac chambers and connections
Q20.4: Double inlet ventricle
The heart pumps blood through the body. Inside the heart are 4 chambers. There are 2 heart atria and 2 ventricles. Both heart atria and both ventricles are separated from each other by a partition.
Your heart did not develop properly before you were born. For you, this means that blood only flows from the two upper chambers (atria) into one ventricle. The blood in the ventricle is a mixture of oxygen-poor and oxygen-rich blood.
This heart defect can lead to various symptoms. A low level of oxygen in the body can make the skin appear bluish in color. Shortness of breath and becoming tired quickly are common symptoms. The symptoms may begin shortly after birth.
