Q07: Other congenital malformations of nervous system
Q07.8: Other specified congenital malformations of nervous system
Nerves are a sort of wiring in the body. Nerves conduct information. The nerves use electrical impulses to do this. Nerves are important, for instance, in enabling you to sense contacts and temperatures, and to move your muscles.
While developing in the womb, many different types of tissue develop in the body. The organs and body parts develop out of the various types of tissue. If tissue fails to develop properly, defects can occur. This kind of malformation can be hereditary or caused by a harmful influence during pregnancy.
A malformation of the nerves means that the affected nerves do not work as well or at all, resulting, for example, in impaired vision, hearing or sense of smell. It is also possible for there to be problems with balance. It may be, for example, that areas of your body are not able to move normally or they feel numb.
