If the baby is not conscious, it does not respond normally to external stimuli. For example, the baby will then not open its eyes when you try to wake it up. A loss of consciousness like this is also called a coma.
There can be various reasons why a baby loses consciousness. The reason may be a bleed in the brain or a brain disorder, for example. Problems with its oxygen supply can also result in the baby losing consciousness. Congenital metabolic disorders may also be causes.
