P83: Other conditions of integument specific to fetus and newborn
P83.2: Hydrops fetalis not due to haemolytic disease
Fluid has accumulated around the child's heart, lungs or abdomen or in its skin. There can be a variety of reasons for that. This can happen if the child has been infected by certain pathogens while in the womb. Fluid accumulations may also accompany certain defects in the child's heart. Certain congenital disorders may also be the cause.
The accumulated fluid can cause health problems. There can be different indications of this. The child may move less than usual in the womb. The child's heart may also beat unusually quickly. Newborn babies can have breathing problems. The skin may look pale or blueish.
