O71: Other obstetric trauma

O71.3: Obstetric laceration of cervix

The uterus or womb sits in the pelvis and is pear-shaped. The narrower part extends downward into the vagina and is called the cervix. When a woman is pregnant, the child grows in her uterus.

When the child gets pushed out of the uterus during labor, the cervix can rupture. The cervix can also be injured by certain aids used to assist the birth.

There may be bleeding from a tear in the cervix.
