N89: Other noninflammatory disorders of vagina

N89.1: Moderate vaginal dysplasia

The vagina is tubular and leads from the outside to the uterus. The vagina has a mucosal lining.

The tissue in the body is made up of cells. A tissue sample is taken to examine the cells in the mucous membrane. The cells of your vaginal mucous membrane have undergone moderate changes. This may be caused, for example, by certain viruses.

These changes to the mucous membrane do not usually produce any symptoms. However, the cells may alter more over time and start to multiply uncontrollably. This may lead to cancer.
