N80-N98: Noninflammatory disorders of female genital tract

N81: Female genital prolapse

Female genital prolapse is a group of conditions where tissues and organs in the female pelvis, such as the uterus, bladder or rectum, slip out of their normal positions. This may occur due to the weakening or stretching of supportive structures, often as a result of childbirth, aging, or heavy physical labor. Hormonal changes during menopause can also contribute. Symptoms can include discomfort, pressure in the pelvic area, and problems with sexual activity. An organ protruding into or through the vagina is a visible sign of severe prolapse. Furthermore, it may alter the functioning of the urinary or digestive systems, leading to incontinence, constipation, or other complications. The severity of the symptoms and their impact on daily life generally determine the progression of the disease. These conditions mainly affect the genitourinary system of the female body.
