N41: Inflammatory diseases of prostate
N41.3: Prostatocystitis
The prostate forms part of the male genital organs. The prostate sits below the bladder and encircles the urethra. The prostate is also known as the prostate gland. Some of the seminal fluid is formed in the prostate. Your prostate is inflamed. Your bladder has also become inflamed. The bladder sits low down in the abdomen and collects the urine. The urine is produced in the two kidneys. The urine flows from the kidneys into the bladder via the ureters. When you pass water, the urine flows from the bladder via the urethra and out.
The inflammation is caused by pathogens. In most cases these pathogens are bacteria. Inflammation of the prostate and bladder can cause various symptoms. You may have a high temperature and feel sick generally. You may have pain in your back or pelvis. Urination can be painful. You may have to urinate more frequently.
