N30-N39: Other diseases of urinary system
N30: Cystitis
Cystitis refers to a group of conditions characterized by an inflammation of the bladder, commonly caused by a urinary tract infection (UTI). This group of conditions primarily affects the body's urinary system. Bacteria, typically E. coli, are usually the culprits, gaining access to your bladder through your urethra, the tube that carries urine out of your body. You may experience discomfort or pain in your lower abdomen and pelvic area, increased frequency of urination, and a burning feeling during urination. Some people may also notice blood in their urine. If left untreated, the bacteria can travel up to your kidneys causing a more serious infection. The progression of these conditions can range from mild to severe, and certain factors like being sexually active or female may increase your risk.
