M99.4: Connective tissue stenosis of neural canal
Connective tissue stenosis of the neural canal, also known as spinal stenosis, is a condition where the spaces within your spine become narrow, which can put pressure on the nerves travelling through the spine. It commonly occurs in the lower back and the neck, and is often a result of the wear-and-tear changes that occur in the spine due to aging. Symptoms can include pain, numbness, muscle weakness, and problems with balance. Some people may not have any symptoms, but for others, spinal stenosis can affect their quality of life. While this normally progresses slowly and the symptoms may gradually worsen over time, factors such as physical trauma can potentially accelerate this progression. Despite this, many people with spinal stenosis are able to maintain a normal lifestyle with the condition.
