M89.6: Osteopathy after poliomyelitis

Osteopathy after poliomyelitis refers to bone diseases or abnormalities that can develop following poliomyelitis, a viral disease that affects the nervous system and can lead to paralysis. This condition arises due to the long-term impact of the poliovirus on the body, commonly on the skeletal system. It often manifests as bone deformities, abnormal bone growth, or density changes in bones previously affected by poliomyelitis. Patients may experience symptoms like pain, stiffness, limited range of motion or mobility issues as bone structures may be compromised. This condition progresses over the course of years or even decades after the original poliomyelitis infection, typically in response to the body's altered compensatory mechanisms due to muscle weakness. It is primarily diagnosed through imaging studies and clinical evaluations. Osteopathy after poliomyelitis is not a contagious or hereditary condition.
