M85: Other disorders of bone density and structure
M85.3: Osteitis condensans
Osteitis condensans is a non-inflammatory condition associated with sclerosis, or hardening, of certain bones in your body, usually located in the pelvis or lower back. The low back and pelvis bones affected are often near the sacroiliac joints, which connect the spine to the hip bones. This condition is commonly found in women and is often not associated with any signs or symptoms. However, some people may experience low back pain or pelvic discomfort. While Osteitis condensans may look worrisome on medical imaging like X-rays or MRI scans due to the dense or 'thickened' appearance of the bones, it is generally benign, meaning it is not harmful or progressive. It is not the result of an infection, cancer, or other disease but is often an incidental finding when the patient is being evaluated for other unrelated issues.
