M82.0: Osteoporosis in multiple myelomatosis

Osteoporosis in multiple myelomatosis, also known as M82.0, is a specific condition that involves a decrease in bone density associated with multiple myeloma. Multiple myeloma is a type of blood cancer that occurs in the bone marrow and results in an overproduction of abnormal plasma cells. These abnormal cells can interfere with the production of normal blood cells and can also cause damage to the bone. Osteoporosis is a condition characterized by fragile bones due to a decrease in bone density. In the context of multiple myeloma, it is believed the abundance of the abnormal plasma cells triggers this loss of bone mass. This can lead to painful fractures, often in the spine or hips, with little trauma or impact. Symptoms might include bone pain, fatigue from anemia due to bone marrow involvement, or recurrent infections due to compromise in normal blood cell production.
