M75: Shoulder lesions

M75.2: Bicipital tendinitis

The biceps muscle is at the front of the upper arm. The biceps muscle is involved in bending and turning the forearm, for example. The biceps muscle has several tendons. Tendons are made up of very firm connective tissue. Tendons attach muscles to bones. One or more of the tendons in your biceps muscle may be inflamed. When you have an inflamed tendon in your biceps muscle, the tendon sheath may also be inflamed. A tendon sheath is a covering for the tendon. It cushions the tendon and contains a small amount of fluid. This reduces friction between the tendon and its surroundings.

The tendons in the biceps muscle can become inflamed due to overloading, injuries or other disorders, for example. When one or more tendons are inflamed, the area of the tendons affected can be painful. For example, it can be painful to raise one’s arm above one’s head or to lie on the affected shoulder.
