M24: Other specific joint derangements
M24.2: Disorder of ligament
Disorder of ligament, coded as M24.2 in ICD-10 WHO 2016 classification, represents conditions where a person's ligaments, the fibrous tissue that connects bones together, is faulty or damaged. This can arise due to various reasons such as an injury, trauma, wear and tear, or certain illnesses that cause ligament weakness or degeneration. Symptoms usually include pain, swelling, instability, and difficulties in moving the associated joint. These symptoms may vary based on the location and severity of the ligament disorder. Joints typically affected could be knees, shoulders, ankles, wrists, or hips, amongst others. The progression of a ligament disorder is largely dependent on the underlying cause and the part of the body affected, and if left untreated, it may result in joint instability and decreased joint function over time.
