M21: Other acquired deformities of limbs
M21.0: Valgus deformity, not elsewhere classified
Valgus deformity, not elsewhere classified, is a medical condition that causes the distal part of a limb, like your leg, to angle outward away from the body's midline. This often results in an issue known as 'knock-knees', where your legs might bend inward causing your knees to touch while your feet are apart. Generally noticeable from a young age, Valgus deformity might be naturally corrected in many children as they grow older. If it persists into adulthood, it can lead to discomfort and difficulty in movements, such as running or walking. While the exact cause of valgus deformity is not fully understood, it may be associated with bone and joint conditions or genetic factors. It affects the musculoskeletal system, particularly the alignment and function of the legs and knees. The progression of this condition varies, and in some cases, it can cause additional strain on the inside of the knee, leading to other issues like arthritis.
