M07: Psoriatic and enteropathic arthropathies

M07.6: Other enteropathic arthropathies

Other enteropathic arthropathies (coded as M07.6 in the ICD-10 WHO 2016 classification) refer to a type of arthritis that is linked with gastrointestinal disorders, namely inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. This connection between joint inflammation and gut problems is due to a shared underlying abnormality in the immune system response. The main symptom of this condition is joint pain and swelling, but the range and severity can vary widely among patients. The joints most commonly affected are the peripheral joints (limbs) and spine. Besides joint-related symptoms, individuals may also experience symptoms related to the underlying gastrointestinal problem such as abdominal pain, bleeding, or changes in bowel habits. It’s important to note that the course of enteropathic arthropathy can run independently from the bowel disease, meaning joint symptoms may present even when bowel symptoms are in remission.
