M06: Other rheumatoid arthritis
M06.1: Adult-onset Still disease
Adult-onset Still's disease is a rare type of inflammatory arthritis that typically affects individuals in their late teens to early adulthood, though it can also occur at any age. The disease is characterized by high fevers, rash, and joint pain. The fevers often rise once or twice a day, and the rash often comes and goes with the fever. The condition is typically systemic, affecting many parts of the body and additional symptoms may include fatigue, muscle pain, weight loss and inflammation of the inner lining of the heart or lungs. The joints, particularly wrists and knees, are often involved leading to swelling and pain. The cause of Adult-onset Still's disease is unknown. The progression of the disease varies widely among patients, ranging from mild symptoms to severe conditions involving many organ systems.
