M00: Pyogenic arthritis

M00.2: Other streptococcal arthritis and polyarthritis

Other streptococcal arthritis and polyarthritis, as the name suggests, refers to arthritis caused by a Streptococcus bacterial infection. This particular type of arthritis often develops rapidly and primarily affects the joints. Streptococcal bacteria commonly reside in the human body, particularly in the throat, and can sometimes cause mild to severe infections. In some cases, these bacteria can spread to the joint tissues, leading to conditions like streptococcal arthritis. Common symptoms of this condition include intense joint pain, swelling, and reduced range of motion. As the inflammation progresses, it can lead to polyarthritis, which implies that more than one joint is affected. Overall, affected individuals might also experience fever, fatigue, and in severe cases, cardiac or renal complications. If left untreated, streptococcal arthritis can cause progressive joint damage, leading to long-term disabilities.
