These wounds can occur, for example, when the blood supply to the skin is insufficient or when the immune system is weak. Open wounds are also sometimes caused by certain pathogens.

Open wounds can be sore or itchy. The skin in those areas can also become inflamed more easily. Sometimes you can also have no symptoms at all. The skin around the open wound can also change and be pale or blueish.
