L89: Decubitus ulcer and pressure area
L89.1: Stage II decubitus ulcer
A Stage II decubitus ulcer, also known as a pressure ulcer or bedsore, is a specific type of skin and tissue injury. It is typically caused by sustained pressure, often due to immobility, on a specific area of the skin. It commonly affects parts of the body with bony prominences, such as the hips, tailbone, heels, or elbows. In this stage, the skin breaks open or forms an ulcer, which appears as a shallow, open wound with a pink or red base. The affected skin may feel warm to touch and also cause significant pain or discomfort. There may also be signs of infection, such as local redness and swelling. As a progressive condition, if not managed appropriately, a Stage II decubitus ulcer can further deteriorate, leading to deeper tissue damage.
