L80-L99: Other disorders of the skin and subcutaneous tissue
L83: Acanthosis nigricans
This condition causes brown or black-colored patches of skin to develop. No clear edge can be seen between the affected areas and the surrounding skin. Thickened spots can also form on the changed surfaces. The patches of skin can feel like velvet on the surface or be rough. They may also be itchy.
The condition is mainly found in the armpits and the neck and in the inside of the elbows and the hollows of the knees. The external genitals and the area around the anus can also be affected.
This condition is caused by various things. These causes include different medicines and long-term diseases. Tumors can also cause these skin lesions. However, it is also possible that no cause will be found for the skin lesions.
