L80: Vitiligo

This disease is also called vitiligo or leucoderma. The first sign is small white patches appearing on the skin. The white patches can get bigger and form large surface areas.

Vitiligo is mainly found on the face and the backs of the hands and soles of the feet. But other areas of the body can also be affected. The hair may also be white on the affected areas.

The exact cause of vitiligo is not yet known for sure. However, it is believed that various influences can play a role. These influences include different medicines or diseases. Several people in a family can be affected.
