L63: Alopecia areata

L63.0: Alopecia (capitis) totalis

All of your hair has fallen out on your entire scalp. The beard, eyelashes and eyebrows may also be affected. The hairless skin is often pale, but not otherwise damaged. Often it is only the colored hairs that fall out. The hairs that grow afterwards are often colorless.

Disorders of the body’s own immune system are often responsible for the hair loss. Inflammations caused by pathogens may also play a part. If the hair loss is only affecting small areas, they recover within a few months without any treatment.
