L59: Other disorders of skin and subcutaneous tissue related to radiation
L59.0: Erythema ab igne [dermatitis ab igne]
The affected areas of your skin were exposed to heat for a long time. This can happen, for example, with hot-water bottles, open fires or a laptop placed on your lap.
The skin may be covered in a net-like red rash in the affected places. The red net-like pattern may also turn brown or gray over time.
The exact cause of this skin lesion is not yet known for sure. It is believed that the heat can permanently damage blood vessels under the skin. Various substances probably also accumulate in these areas that change the skin color.
