L56: Other acute skin changes due to ultraviolet radiation
L56.3: Solar urticaria
This condition causes wheals to form on the skin immediately after light exposure. The skin is swollen around the wheal. Wheals are therefore slightly higher than the surrounding skin. They may appear light or reddish. The skin is red around the wheals. The affected areas of the skin can be very itchy. The skin lesions disappear within minutes or hours by themselves.
If large areas of the skin are affected, other symptoms such as headache or tiredness can occur. The person may also be light-headed or lose consciousness.
