K82: Other diseases of gallbladder

K82.0: Obstruction of gallbladder

The gallbladder is in the top right part of the abdomen below the liver. The liver produces bile. The bile flows through bile ducts to the gallbladder and is stored there. When needed, the bile flows through another bile duct to the intestine. There, the bile helps to digest fats.

The gallbladder can for instance become constricted and obstructed if tissue from the outside presses on the gallbladder or bile duct. It can also become obstructed if scars form inside the gallbladder.

If the gallbladder becomes obstructed, the bile fluid in the gallbladder may accumulate.
