K80.4: Calculus of bile duct with cholecystitis

Calculus of bile duct with cholecystitis is a medical condition where solid particles known as gallstones or calculi form in the bile duct, the tube that carries bile from your liver to your gallbladder and intestine. When these stones block the bile duct, bile builds up and can cause inflammation of the gallbladder, a condition known as cholecystitis. People with this condition often experience severe abdominal pain, especially on the right side, along with symptoms like fever, jaundice, nausea and vomiting. The pain often intensifies after eating especially greasy or fatty foods. There isn't always a clear reason why some people get gallstones and others do not, but factors like age, obesity, rapid weight loss, and a diet high in fat and cholesterol can increase the risk. This condition can worsen progressively if not treated timely and may lead to complications like gallbladder rupture and infection spreading into the abdomen.
