K80.0: Calculus of gallbladder with acute cholecystitis
Calculus of the gallbladder with acute cholecystitis, commonly known as gallstones accompanied by inflammation of the gallbladder, is a condition where hard particles develop in your gallbladder, a small organ under the liver. These particles are often made from cholesterol and can vary in size. Occasionally these stones can block the passageway out of the gallbladder, leading to a buildup of bile. This, in turn, can cause inflammation known as acute cholecystitis. When this happens, individuals may experience severe and sudden pain in the right upper part of their abdomen. Other common symptoms include fever, nausea, vomiting, and a yellowing of the skin and eyes. Gallstones and acute cholecystitis can affect anyone, but certain factors increase risk, including a family history of gallstones, being female, being overweight, or being age 40 or older.
