K76.5: Hepatic veno-occlusive disease
The liver is an important organ on the top right of the abdomen. For example, it helps with blood clotting and detoxifying the body. Nutrients from food are processed in the liver.
The veins convey blood from the liver to the heart. Small veins in your liver have become obstructed. As a result, the liver tissue may be damaged.
That can occur for various reasons. The veins can become obstructed after a treatment with anti-cancer drugs or after irradiation. Taking certain plant-based substances can also cause obstruction in the veins. The disease can also be congenital, which means you were born with it.
