K76.1: Chronic passive congestion of liver
The liver is an important organ on the top right of the abdomen. For example, it helps with blood clotting and detoxifying the body. Nutrients from food are processed in the liver.
Veins convey blood from the liver to the heart. In your case, the blood cannot be properly carried away from your liver. As a result, the blood has accumulated in your liver.
If the heart is no longer able to pump enough blood, the blood in front of the heart can accumulate. The blood may then also accumulate in the liver. Another reason for a blood stasis (accumulation of blood) in the liver is blocked veins in the liver. That can occur for instance because of blood clots.
The liver tissue can be damaged by the blood stasis. If a large part of the liver tissue is damaged, the liver may no longer be able to work properly.
