K70-K77: Diseases of liver

K73: Chronic hepatitis, not elsewhere classified

Chronic hepatitis, not elsewhere classified, refers to long-term inflammation of the liver that doesn't fall under the specific categories of Hepatitis A, B, C, D, or E. Various other factors, such as exposure to certain medications, toxins, alcohol abuse, autoimmune diseases or metabolic diseases, can lead to this type of hepatitis. It's often characterized by persistent or intermittent liver cell injury over a minimum period of six months. Symptoms may include fatigue, loss of appetite, joint pain, jaundice (a yellow hue to the skin or eyes), and occasional liver enlargement. Over time, chronic hepatitis can progress to more grievous conditions, such as cirrhosis (scarring of the liver) or liver cancer. The disease affects the liver's ability to function, impacting digestion, detoxification, and metabolism in the body.
