K13: Other diseases of lip and oral mucosa
K13.6: Irritative hyperplasia of oral mucosa
The mucous membrane is a moist skin. The whole of the oral cavity is lined with mucous membrane.
The mucous membrane in your mouth may become enlarged if the mucous membrane is irritated for a long time. This can be the case if something is rubbing or pressing on the mucous membrane. Tobacco smoke and alcohol can also irritate the mucous membrane.
