There are many causes of an inflamed oral mucous membrane. For example, these include pathogens, a weakened immune system or ill-fitting dentures.
An inflamed oral mucous membrane is typically red, swollen and painful. Sour or spicy foods can make the symptoms worse. An inflamed oral mucous membrane may bleed or cause bad breath.
