K06.1: Gingival enlargement
The gums can become thicker due to inflammations, particular diseases or drugs, for example. Sometimes the exact cause is not known either.
The symptoms depend on how severely the gums are thickened. Pathogens can accumulate under the thickened gums. As a result, the gums may become inflamed more easily. They then become reddened and bleed more quickly.
