K02.5: Caries with pulp exposure

Caries with pulp exposure, also referred to as tooth decay or a cavity, is a condition where the tooth's hard outer layer, the enamel, has been damaged to the point where the innermost part of the tooth, the pulp, is exposed. The pulp contains the tooth's nerves and blood vessels. This exposure typically happens when decay is left untreated, allowing bacteria to continue eating away at the tooth's structure. Common symptoms are often tooth sensitivity, noticeable holes or pits in your teeth, and discomfort or pain when biting down. It's also possible to see brown, black or white staining on the tooth surface. In general, when pulp exposure occurs, it can lead to more serious conditions like pulpitis or tooth abscess if not treated promptly.
